drummer Claude Ranger.
From
1990 - 96 - taught piano at Capilano College in Vancouver. Miles
also has had a good deal of experience playing piano and keyboards
in the musical theatre world, and has played on countless recording
sessions for television and film. For the past 8 years, Miles has
been working for PG Music, with whom he has helped to produce and
performed on music software programs, including "The Jazz Pianist
1&2","The NewAge Pianist", "The Children's Pianist", "The Modern
Jazz Pianist", "Jazz Piano Masterclass", and an Oscar Peterson CD
Rom, complete with transcriptions, as well as many add-ons for the
popular "Band-in-a-Box" programs.
His
current projects include co-writing, performing and producing a
CD with saxophonist/flautist Tom Keenlyside, and co-writing and
producing several CD's with vocalist/lyricist Glenda Rae. Miles
has performed on over 150 albums as a sideman. His own releases
have sold out, but will be re-released along with some new titles
in the near future. Ø Since 1998, Miles has enjoyed a fruitful song-writing
collaboration with vocalist Glenda Rae and engineer/percussionist
Tony Chamberlist, yeilding over 90 songs that range through jazz,
country, pop and classical forms.

Tony
Chamberlist developed his musical intuitions while growing up in
Canada's Yukon Territory. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Tony moved
to Vancouver as a young teen. He was involved in both music and
drama, but elected to pursue drums and percussion as a primary means
of expression. Tony also had a very keen interest in audio technologies,
a passion that would have serious implications later on in his career.

|
Tony
honed his performance skills playing with a variety of bands,
but Tony was particularly interested in long term relationships
with creative types who wished to write and perform their own
material. He also enjoyed improvisational playing, leading to
an interest in jazz and world rhythms. Tony's fledgling ensemble
involvement in the Vancouver scene was the formation of a band
with sisters Christine and Glenda Rae Duncan, performing a combination
of obscure covers and Christine's compositions. |
Simultaneously,
Tony formed a band with singer-songwriter Jon Ochsendorf, and commenced
a musical and personal relationship that persists to this day. Jon's
band was renamed "Jonny & The Stickmen" in the early 90's, and performed
under that moniker for close to a decade before disbanding. The
band recorded three albums during that period, and served to introduce
Tony as a formidable engineering and production talent. Even though
the first efforts were obviously flawed, Tony's talent was apparent,
and he turned his attentions to perfecting the gift, even while
continuing to perform.
After
the demise of the Stickmen, Tony turned his attention to old friend
Glenda Rae (nee Duncan) and encouraged her to pursue a performance
career. With the assistance of Jon Ochsendorf and industry veteran
Brett Wade, the troupe cultivated a sophisticated acoustic groove,
and performed regularly in a variety of venues throughout BC's Lower
Mainland.
Tony
credits close friend Christine Duncan with blazing a trail of musical
connections that would eventually lead to his present industry status.
Christine's meteoric arc into the upper echelons of Canada's jazz
scene brought her into proximity with some of the country's musical
elite, none of which were more important (from Tony's perspective)
than Vancouver pianist/composer Miles Black. Sometime in 1998, Tony
introduced Miles to a recording of Glenda accompanied by Jon, Brett,
and Tony, igniting an interest that has evolved into a blaze of
creativity, and a consequent musical and professional partnership.
Today, Tony, Miles and Glenda are a triple threat partnership, functioning
as a writing, production, and performance team.
Tony
is also planning to turn his attention to fundraising for autism
research, as his son is autistic. Tony runs his own production company,
known as Brown Bag Music, (www.brownbagmusic.com) and records a
wide variety of projects when not attending to his work with Miles
and Glenda. Here is a partial discography of work Tony has been
